Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi landed in New Delhi on Friday to take part in the 18th BRICS Summit. Minister of State Sanjay Seth welcomed him at the airport as preparations continued for the high-level gathering.

The Ministry of External Affairs described India and Egypt as longstanding friends and said both nations were working towards stronger cooperation within BRICS.

Taking to X, the MEA posted, “Warmly welcome President of Egypt, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi @AlsisiOfficial to the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi. He was received by MoS @SethSanjayMP at the airport.”

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian also arrived in the national capital earlier on Friday to attend the summit. Minister of State Shantanu Thakur received the Iranian leader at the airport.

The MEA emphasised the historic relationship between India and Iran, particularly their cultural links and strong people-to-people connections.

India will convene the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi on September 12 and 13 as the grouping’s chair for 2026.

The summit will, however, bring together leaders representing member states, partner nations and countries invited for outreach.

The grouping currently includes Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates.

BRICS partner nations include Belarus, Cuba, Bolivia, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, Uganda, Uzbekistan and Vietnam.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said leaders from around the world would gather in New Delhi and expressed optimism about the discussions during the summit.
