The engagement comes amid a series of high-level meetings aimed at expanding bilateral relations. Last week, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met his Brazilian counterpart Mauro Vieira on the sidelines of the G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Atlanta. Their discussions covered bilateral and global issues, including economic cooperation.
Brazil’s Foreign Ministry, Itamaraty, said the ministers also discussed the bilateral economic agenda. Jaishankar congratulated Vieira on the conclusion of Brazil’s electoral process and conveyed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s warm wishes to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on his re-election.
On October 26, PM Modi congratulated President Lula on his re-election, expressing confidence in strengthening the India-Brazil Strategic Partnership and expanding cooperation across sectors, particularly on shared Global South priorities.
President Lula secured a fourth term after defeating Liberal Party candidate Flavio Bolsonaro in the October 25 presidential runoff.
PM Modi and Lula last met in February during the Brazilian President’s State Visit to India. Their discussions covered critical minerals, digital cooperation, healthcare, MSMEs, entrepreneurship and traditional knowledge. Lula also attended the second AI Impact Summit in New Delhi.
The latest military delegation visit further reflects efforts by both countries to deepen defence, economic and technological cooperation.
