BJP’s ‘Pranam’ Initiative: Personal Calls to Boost Voter Turnout in Uttar Pradesh

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Uttar Pradesh has embarked on a new initiative to bolster voter awareness and participation. Under this plan, BJP workers will personally contact 50 voters daily to convey Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s greetings to every household. Additionally, they will urge voters to prioritize casting their votes on polling day before attending to other tasks.

This initiative comes in response to a noticeable decline in voter turnout, particularly evident in the first phase of the Lok Sabha polls in Uttar Pradesh. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his rallies, has stressed the significance of every vote and encouraged people to prioritize voting with the slogan ‘pehle matdaan, phir jalpan’ (vote first, breakfast later).

Data reveals a drop in the average polling percentage across eight parliamentary seats in UP compared to previous elections. To counteract this trend, BJP leaders like state president Bhupendra Chaudhary and state general secretary Dharampal Singh have been tasked with intensifying day-to-day monitoring to enhance ground-level mobilization.

Furthermore, the BJP is forming ‘Panna Samitis,’ consisting of at least one member from each family in the voter list of a particular booth, to strengthen voter engagement. Despite challenges such as the ongoing wheat harvest and wedding season, BJP officials remain committed to increasing voter turnout.

While acknowledging the impact of heatwave conditions on voter participation, BJP state general secretary Sanjay Rai emphasized the enthusiastic turnout of BJP supporters compared to opposition voters. The BJP’s proactive approach aims to inspire greater civic engagement and ensure robust participation in upcoming phases of the elections.
