BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla on Tuesday stated that his mother was grievously injured after an unidentified motorist allegedly struck her with a car in Pune and escaped from the scene. He described the incident as a deliberate act and said it had left his family deeply distressed.
According to Poonawalla, his mother immediately went to the hospital and will soon undergo surgery. He requested prayers and support for her recovery.
Taking to X, Poonawalla posted, “A few hours ago an extremely disgusting human being ran his car over my mother deliberately – leaving her seriously injured and ran away. She will be undergoing a surgery very soon. Kindly pray for her.”
“My mother is one of the kindest & nicest human beings and for her to be subjected to this at this age makes my blood boil and my heart sink. Hope @PuneCityPolice @CPPuneCity will arrest that person & will ensure he doesn’t get away with it. @Dev_Fadnavis @CMOMaharashtra,” the post further read.
In a separate post, political analyst and Poonawalla’s brother Tehseen Poonawalla shared CCTV footage that allegedly captures the moment the vehicle hit their mother. He claimed the visuals suggest the act was intentional.
“My mom a senior citizen went for a drive with my driver and executive assistant & was waiting on the side while they were tanking up the gas in our car, someone just hit her (seems deliberate) and ran away,” he posted.
Providing a medical update, Tehseen said his mother had sustained a hip fracture and would require surgical intervention. He added that doctors were closely monitoring her condition before proceeding with the surgery. He also expressed concern over the trauma she had endured.
So far, the police have not issued an official statement on the matter. Police will likely share more details as the investigation progresses.
