BJP May Advance PM Modi’s Kolkata Rally To March 14 Ahead Of Bengal Assembly Elections

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in West Bengal is considering advancing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s proposed rally in Kolkata by one day. The change is currently under discussion within the party.

The large public gathering will likely take place at Brigade Parade Ground in central Kolkata. The event is to play a key role in the party’s campaign ahead of the state Assembly elections later this year.

A member of the BJP’s state committee said the initial schedule set the rally for March 15.

According to the latest tentative plan, the BJP may organise the rally on March 14 instead of the earlier proposed date.

Party sources explained that the final decision will depend on confirmation from the Prime Minister’s Office. Leaders in the state unit expect the Prime Minister to reach Kolkata on the night of March 13.

After addressing the rally on the afternoon of March 14, he is likely to return to New Delhi the same evening. The rally will likely serve as the concluding event of the BJP’s Parivartan Yatra in West Bengal.

The political campaign began on March 2. It has since covered several districts across the state. The initiative, however, aims to expand the party’s support base ahead of the Assembly elections.

Several prominent BJP figures have already taken part in the Parivartan Yatra events. Among them are Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and BJP national president Nitin Nabin.

Their presence at different stages of the campaign has been aimed at energising party workers. It has also helped strengthen the party’s organisational outreach across the state.

At the same time, the BJP’s West Bengal leadership is preparing its recommendations for candidates in all 294 Assembly constituencies.

The state unit plans to forward these recommendations to the party’s central leadership, which will make the final decision on nominations.

For each constituency, the state unit intends to submit two separate lists. One list will include three preferred candidates. The other will identify three individuals who are not considered suitable for nomination.

Party leaders have indicated that the candidate selection process is more systematic this time.

The state leadership plans to prioritise leaders who have emerged from grassroots-level politics.
