The police reported that the gunfire originated from only one side, resulting in injuries to two individuals.
In a shocking incident near Mumbai, a Shiv Sena city chief, Mahesh Gaikwad, was reportedly shot at by BJP legislator Ganpat Gaikwad last night, according to the police. The attack, allegedly stemming from a land dispute, occurred at a police station, leading to the detention of Ganpat Gaikwad.
Ganpat Gaikwad, who represents the Kalyan East constituency in Kalyan, located approximately 40 km from Mumbai, is aligned with Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena in the Maharashtra government.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Sudhakar Pathare confirmed that the shooting occurred from one side, resulting in injuries to two individuals. The confrontation took place at Hill Line police station in Ulhasnagar during discussions over a land dispute. Mahesh Gaikwad and another supporter, injured in the firing, were promptly taken to a hospital. Mahesh Gaikwad’s condition is critical, with five bullets recovered from his body.
Ganpat Gaikwad, detained after the incident, asserted in a statement to a news channel that he fired in self-defense, claiming that Mahesh’s supporters had misbehaved with his son. The dispute between Shiv Sena’s Mahesh Gaikwad and BJP MLA Ganpat Gaikwad led them to the police station to file a complaint. However, during the heated discussions, the MLA allegedly opened fire at Mahesh Gaikwad and his associates, as detailed by Mr. Pathare.
