BJP declares name of candidates for 4 by-polls Assembly seats in Bengal
Today, the BJP announced its candidates for four Assembly constituencies in West Bengal. Now the Bypoll elections are scheduled for July 10.
The four constituencies are Raiganj in North Dinajpur district, Bagda in North 24 Parganas district, Ranaghat-Dakshin in Nadia district, and Maniktala in Kolkata.
For Maniktala, the party has chosen Kalyan Chaubey, who previously contested from the same constituency in the 2021 West Bengal Assembly polls but was unsuccessful.
The candidates for Raiganj, Bagda, and Ranaghat-Dakshin are Manas Kumar Ghosh, Binay Biswas, and Manoj Kumar Biswas, respectively.
The party selected both Binay Biswas and Manoj Kumar Biswas because they belong to the Matua community, a Backward Class community significant in both Bagda and Ranaghat-Dakshin.
The by-election in Maniktala is due to the death of the former Trinamool Congress legislator, Sadhan Pande.
In the other three constituencies, previous BJP legislators Biswajit Das from Bagda, Dr. Mukut Mani Adhikari from Ranaghat-Dakshin, and Krishna Kalyani from Raiganj resigned from the Assembly to run for Lok Sabha on Trinamool Congress tickets. Despite their defeat, voters need to hold bypolls for the seats they vacated.
Based on the recent Lok Sabha elections, the BJP appears stronger in Raiganj, Bagda, and Ranaghat-Dakshin, while the Trinamool Congress is more favored in Maniktala.
The Trinamool Congress was the first to announce candidates for all four constituencies, followed by the Left Front, which announced candidates for Bagda, Ranaghat-Dakshin, and Maniktala, leaving Raiganj for Congress.
