Priyanka Gandhi kick started the Congess Party’s campaign from Jabalpur for the Madhya Pradesh assembly polls. Elections in MP are likely to happen in the ending of 2023. A party leader expressed, she started off the campaign after praying at the banks of the Narmada river. Jabalpur holds a significant place in the Madhya Pradesh politics. It is located in the centre of the state’s Mahakoshal region. The region has a great value of tribal voters.
Looking back at the 2018 elections, Congress Party was able to get 11 Schedule tribe seats out of 13 in eight-district division. Bhartiya Janata Party won on the other two seats.
“Priyanka ji will launch the party’s campaign and Sankalp 2023 by addressing a public meeting at Shahid Smarak at around 11.15 am. She will land here at around 10:30am and head to Gwarighat to pray to Narmada river,” Jabalpur mayor and Congress’ city chief Jagat Bahadur Singh told media.
Mr. Jagat even claimed that Congress will sweep the polls as people in Mahakosh area feel neglected by BJP. He said, “People in Mahakoshal area or Jabalpur division having eight districts feel neglected by the BJP. We did well (last time) in the area. This time around we are going to sweep the polls.”
Bhartiya Janata Party condemns Priyanka as she offers prayers to river Narmada. They criticized her on not knowing the basic procedures and customs of Hindu religion.
BJP along with a video shared on Twitter, “This is the difference between hypocrisy and faith. Priyanka Gandhi doesn’t know that Aarti is first offered to God and then humans take it. That is why they are called electoral Hindus”.
In another tweet, the BJP also claimed that Priyanka made a Brahmin touch her feet after the puja which is ‘against the Hindu tradition’.
