Bihar Gears Up For First Phase Of Assembly Polls As Nomination Process Begins Today

With the Bihar Assembly elections approaching, the process of filing nominations for the first phase will commence today, marking the beginning of what promises to be a closely watched electoral contest in the state.

Prospective candidates will start submitting their nomination papers for 121 constituencies spread across 18 districts, as political activity gathers pace across Bihar.

The Election Commission of India is likely to issue the formal notification on Friday, officially opening the nomination window for the first phase of polling, scheduled to take place on 6 November.

The first phase will cover the districts of Gopalganj, Siwan, Saran, Buxar, Bhojpur, Patna, Vaishali, Muzaffarpur, Nalanda, Darbhanga, Samastipur, Sheikhpura, Lakhisarai, Begusarai, Munger, Khagaria, Saharsa, and Madhepura.

As the nomination period begins, political campaigns across the state have intensified.

Major alliances and their member parties are stepping up campaigns, holding rallies, finalising candidates, and planning strategies as they anticipate a fiercely contested election.

Following the build-up, Bihar BJP President Dilip Jaiswal announced on Thursday that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) would declare its seat-sharing arrangement and list of candidates within the next few days.

Jaiswal said discussions among NDA partners were progressing positively.

“We discussed the names of candidates for both the sitting BJP seats and those we lost in the last election. The party’s parliamentary committee has finalised the names and will release the list soon,” he stated.

He further mentioned that senior party leaders had undertaken an extensive review to finalise candidate selections and that the alliance had already completed most of its groundwork for the upcoming polls.

As the nomination process begins and alliances prepare to announce their candidates, political parties are driving Bihar into a high-energy election season, with attention focused on the first phase of voting in November.
