A sizeable group of students took to the streets of Patna on Tuesday. They sought the cancellation and re-conduct of the 70th Bihar Public Service Commission Combined Competitive Examination and the Bihar Police Subordinate Services Commission Main Examination.
The protesters assembled near JP Golambar and criticised the state government through slogans and placards. They called for an independent inquiry into alleged lapses surrounding both examinations.
One banner displayed by the students stated, ‘Neither will foul play in exams be tolerated, nor will playing with our future be accepted’.
The aspirants said authorities should hold both examinations afresh for every candidate if investigators establish any wrongdoing.
The students tried to proceed towards the Chief Minister’s residence and Raj Bhavan. Police erected barricades near JP Golambar to restrict their movement.
The protesters pushed through the barriers, resulting in a confrontation with police personnel. Some candidates climbed over the barricades as they continued chanting slogans.
Authorities stationed more than 200 police personnel around Gandhi Maidan and reinforced security at Dakbungalow Crossing, where barricades blocked the route.
The BPSSC conducted its Main Examination in May 2026 to fill 1,799 Police Sub-Inspector positions. Approximately 35,857 candidates took the test.
Questions over the process intensified after a photograph purportedly showing the question paper appeared on social media. The photograph surfaced after the May 27 examination at Government Girls’ High School in Purnea.
Police later arrested teacher Mrityunjay Kumar, who allegedly took a photograph of the paper after the examination and forwarded it to a relative.
The Economic Offences Unit subsequently began investigating the allegations.
The agency secured photographs of the question paper and booklet and asked the BPSSC to clarify their authenticity and origin.
They have demanded appropriate action if investigators confirm any irregularities and continue to seek fresh examinations for all candidates.
The Patna protest remains focused on the cancellation and re-conduct of the 70th BPSC CCE and BPSSC Main Examination for 1,799 Police Sub-Inspector vacancies.
