President Joe Biden will host Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, and Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio in Wilmington, Delaware, on Saturday for the sixth Quad Leaders Summit. This will mark the first time Biden hosts foreign leaders in his hometown, including a private dinner at his residence. The White House noted this reflects Biden’s close relationships with the Quad leaders and the strategic importance of the group.
The leaders will unveil the Cancer Moonshot initiative, which aims to innovate cancer prevention, detection, and treatment. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri stated the Quad will collaborate to reduce cervical cancer in the Indo-Pacific region.
Before the summit, PM Modi expressed his eagerness to review and deepen India-US ties with Biden. The Quad, a strategic partnership between India, the U.S., Japan, and Australia, aims to ensure an open and resilient Indo-Pacific. The combined GDP of Quad nations stands at $34.8 trillion, with the group accounting for 44% of Indo-Pacific trade.
In a statement, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said the summit would focus on health security, maritime security, and emerging technologies. The Quad countries will also discuss clean energy, disaster response, and cybersecurity.
Following the summit, India will host the 2025 Quad meeting after swapping its turn with the U.S. The four countries have increased defense and maritime cooperation in recent years, with discussions expected to include regional developments like those in Bangladesh. The Quad remains committed to sovereignty, territorial integrity, and peaceful dispute resolution, addressing China’s growing influence in the region.
