A 24-year-old artiste was allegedly raped in a hotel in Gurugram by her Instagram friend who invited her under the pretext of an interview, the police said on Thursday. The woman, currently residing in Delhi, has a significant following on Instagram, where she regularly shares her videos.
In her complaint, she stated that a few days prior, she got in touch with a person named Mahesh Pandey through Instagram, who offered her work in the Bhojpuri film industry. On June 29, he called her to a hotel in Gurugram’s Udyog Vihar area, claiming it was for an interview. However, upon reaching the hotel, she found out that Mahesh had already reserved a room. During the interaction, he began consuming alcohol. Subsequently, as she attempted to leave, he allegedly forced himself upon her and committed the act of rape.
The victim mentioned that the accused threatened her life and even had some of his friends contact her, threatening to post her private videos online.
In response to the woman’s complaint, the police filed an FIR against Mahesh Pandey, a resident of Chakarpur in Gurugram, under sections 376 (rape), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Udyog Vihar Police Station on Wednesday.
ACP, Crime, Varun Dahiya said that the verification of the allegations is under process and the accused will be apprehended soon.
