Bharatiya Janata Party Flags Video Of Hindu Teacher’s House Set Ablaze In Bangladesh; Links It To Murshidabad Violence

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday drew attention to a video showing a Hindu teacher’s house being set on fire in Bangladesh. The party used the incident to raise concerns about alleged similar patterns of violence in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district.

The video, shared widely on social media, showed flames rapidly engulfing the home of schoolteacher Birendra Kumar Dey in Gowainghat upazila of Sylhet district.

BJP leaders stated that the attack targeted the family solely because of their religious identity. They warned that it highlighted rising violence against minorities in Bangladesh.

Sharing the video on X, BJP IT Cell chief and West Bengal central observer Amit Malviya compared the Sylhet attack with the violence that occurred in Murshidabad last year during protests against the Waqf (Amendment) Act.

He alleged that Hindu homes were selectively targeted in both cases. He called the Bangladesh incident ‘systematic and targeted persecution’.

Malviya further urged Hindu Bengalis in West Bengal to stay vigilant. He referred to the lynching of Horgobindo Das and his son Chandan Das during the Murshidabad unrest.

Malviya added that recent attacks in Bangladesh should serve as a warning for West Bengal. He accused the Trinamool Congress-led government of failing to protect minorities.

The arson attack in Sylhet is part of a disturbing series of violent incidents targeting Hindu minorities in Bangladesh.

Local media reported that Islamist groups attacked the village, forcing the teacher’s family to flee as flames consumed their home.

Earlier this week, miscreants brutally hacked and stabbed 27-year-old auto-rickshaw driver Samir Das to death in Feni district.

Residents discovered his body in a crop field after he went missing on Sunday evening.

Rights groups noted that this marked the ninth attack on Hindus in less than a month, highlighting a growing pattern of communal violence.

Last month, mobs triggered protests across India after beating Hindu garment factory worker Dipu Chandra Das to death over blasphemy allegations.

On January 9, India voiced deep concern over repeated attacks on minorities in Bangladesh, especially Hindus.

The government stated that it is closely monitoring the situation.

The violence, which has continued under the Muhammad Yunus-led interim government, has drawn international condemnation from human rights organisations.
