Bhagat Singh’s Great-Grandson Objects to Arvind Kejriwal’s Photo Placement, Controversy Ensues

Yadavendra Singh, the great-grandson of freedom fighter Bhagat Singh, has raised objections to Sunita Kejriwal delivering a speech with the portrait of the revolutionary alongside the photo of her jailed husband Arvind Kejriwal.

Speaking to news agency ANI, Yadavendra Singh stated, “If we look at the politics of today, it is becoming personal. Politics is being driven by personal gain. No leader should be compared to him (Bhagat Singh). His contribution was for the country and society. It was not personal.”

During her recent address, a photograph depicting Arvind Kejriwal behind bars was positioned between the portraits of Bhagat Singh and Ambedkar, sparking controversy.

Yadavendra Singh emphasized that if the Aam Aadmi Party mistakenly arranged this, they should rectify it by removing Kejriwal’s photo placed between the portraits of Ambedkar and Bhagat Singh.

Previously, the BJP raised objections to the picture, accusing the Aam Aadmi Party of hurting sentiments.

“Kejriwal is facing corruption charges, and by displaying his photograph alongside patriots like Shaheed-e-Azam (Bhagat Singh) and Dr. Ambedkar, the AAP has disrespected their legacy,” stated BJP’s Delhi unit chief Virendra Sachdeva.

Sachdeva further criticized the AAP for allowing the jailed chief minister’s wife to issue political statements from his “official room and chair.”

Senior AAP leader Atishi defended the action, asserting that the BJP-led Centre had wrongfully imprisoned Kejriwal.

“Kejriwal symbolizes the current struggle against BJP’s dictatorship. His photograph in our offices serves as a reminder that the fight against the BJP is akin to the freedom movement,” stated Atishi, as reported by news agency PTI.

She emphasized, “There was a time when the people of this country fought against British rulers. Now, we are fighting against the ‘dictatorship’ of the BJP.”

Kejriwal is currently in judicial custody until April 15 in connection with a money-laundering case linked to the Delhi government’s now-defunct excise policy.
