Bengaluru Auto-Rickshaw Driver Allegedly Rapes Young Woman

In a distressing development, a young woman was allegedly raped by an auto-rickshaw driver after returning from a party, according to officials on Sunday.

The incident occurred within the jurisdiction of the HSR Layout police station. Authorities report that the woman was traveling home on her scooter after a night out at a pub in Koramangala when she had an accident and fell from her vehicle around midnight. Stranded, she hailed an auto-rickshaw to reach home.

During the ride, the auto-rickshaw driver observed that the woman appeared disoriented and not fully conscious. He then took her to a warehouse near Bommanahalli, where he allegedly assaulted her. The victim is currently receiving treatment in the ICU of a private hospital.

Sara Fathima, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East), confirmed that a sexual assault case has been registered at the HSR Layout police station. “The victim is undergoing medical examination, and we have registered the case early this morning. I have personally spoken to her,” Fathima stated.

Home Minister G. Parameshwara addressed the situation, noting that the police are following standard procedures and conducting medical tests on the victim. “We are investigating the case thoroughly,” he said.

Following the assault, the victim contacted a female friend, informing her of the incident. Her friend arrived at the scene, found her in a semi-conscious state, and transported her to the hospital. Medical personnel later confirmed the rape to the friend. The Hebbagodi police were initially inform, but the case was transfer to the HSR Layout police after the victim’s vehicle was located within their jurisdiction.

Police sources indicated that they are verifying details and statements as the victim’s accounts have varied. Authorities have ruled out the possibility of a gang rape. Senior police officials have visited the victim at the hospital and provided additional security.

The police are continuing their investigation and will release further details once they have verified all the facts. They have not yet confirmed reports suggesting that the victim is the daughter of an Army officer.
