Bengaluru: After having to wait 12 hours to board a SpiceJet flight to Mumbai, 250 passengers lose their cool

At least 250 travellers who had been waiting over 12 hours to board a SpiceJet flight to Mumbai on Wednesday caused a commotion at the airport in Bengaluru. Even in the afternoon, passengers were unable to board the flight, which was supposed to take off at five in the morning.

After the passengers lost their temper and argued with airline staff, accusing them of failing to make suitable replacement plans despite numerous deadlines, chaos broke out. According to the passengers, the airline reported that there was a technical issue with the flight that was headed for Mumbai.

The news that the flight would be departing earlier than usual was the first to reach the passengers. The passengers claimed that after two hours of waiting inside the aircraft, they were informed that the flight had been rescheduled to depart at noon and were asked to descend and return to boarding gate number 15. Subsequently, the departure time was moved to 3 pm, and the flight is now scheduled to depart at 8.30 pm.

The passengers were very irate and began to question the airline employees about the reasonless delay and lack of information. Travellers claimed that airline representatives were not giving them the attention they needed.

Some people vented on the social media site X, which was formerly known as Twitter. Some even mentioned the Airports Authority of India and Jyotiraditya Scindia, the minister of civil aviation.

A statement about the incident has not yet been issued by SpiceJet.

SpiceJet has faced criticism in the past for its operational delays. A few days prior, a dispute between passengers and airline employees over a delay of over seven hours for a flight to Patna resulted in chaos at the Delhi airport. The passengers had been “duly informed of the schedule changes,” according to the airline, the night before.
