Bengal Poll Campaign Intensifies As Key Leaders Roll Out High-Voltage Outreach

Amit Shah will address four public meetings across North Bengal on Wednesday, coinciding with the Bengali New Year, as campaigning intensifies ahead of the Assembly elections in West Bengal.

His schedule begins with a rally at Lobong Ground in the Darjeeling district at 11:30 AM, followed by meetings in Rajganj (Jalpaiguri) at 1 PM, Falakata (Alipurduar) at 2:30 PM, and Tufanganj (Cooch Behar) at 4 PM, covering key constituencies in the region.

Ahead of the Falakata rally, assailants allegedly attacked a BJP candidate and a sitting legislator during a door-to-door campaign on Tuesday evening, escalating tensions.

The incident reportedly involved activists linked to the Trinamool Congress, led by local panchayat figure Ravi Minz.

The legislator’s driver sustained serious injuries in the clash, although local party leaders denied the allegations.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will not hold public meetings but will instead lead two roadshows in Siliguri and Mal in North Bengal, focusing on direct voter outreach.

Separately, Abhishek Banerjee, general secretary of the Trinamool Congress, will chair an organisational meeting in his Diamond Harbour constituency.

A day earlier, he conducted a virtual session with party leaders, urging unity and cautioning against internal conflicts ahead of the elections.

The two-phase Assembly elections in West Bengal are scheduled for April 23 and April 29.

The first phase will cover 152 constituencies across North Bengal and parts of South Bengal, while the remaining 142 seats, including those in Kolkata and surrounding districts, will go to polls in the second phase.

The counting of votes will take place on May 4.
