Bazm-e-Sahafat: Bharat Express Urdu Hosts Third National Conclave On Urdu Journalism

Bharat Express Urdu is hosting its prestigious national conclave ‘Bazm-e-Sahafat’ at the India International Centre (IIC) in New Delhi, bringing together prominent journalists, intellectuals, policymakers and cultural personalities from across the country.

The third edition of the conclave is taking place on September 17 under the theme ‘New India with Urdu’.

The event, however, focuses on the evolving role of Urdu journalism, emerging opportunities in the media sector and its future in India’s changing media landscape.

The one-day conclave highlights Urdu’s contribution to India’s cultural and journalistic heritage.

Spoken by millions across the country, Urdu has, however, remained an important part of India’s shared cultural traditions and continues to contribute to its diverse media ecosystem.

Bharat Express News Network CMD Upendrra Rai conceptualised the event as part of his broader vision for Urdu journalism.

With more than 25 years of experience in journalism and media, CMD Upendrra Rai has held senior editorial positions at Star News, CNBC, Tehelka and Sahara India Media.

Nearly 15 years ago, CMD Upendrra Rai played a key role in establishing ‘Alami Sahara TV’, one of India’s early 24-hour Urdu news channels.

The third edition builds on the success of the previous two conclaves.

Organisers held the first edition at Urdu Ghar in New Delhi on October 27, 2024, where journalists and academics appreciated the initiative.

The second edition took place on November 26, 2025, and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated the event. Union Ministers and senior policymakers attended the conclave.

The latest edition, however, continues to bring together leading voices from journalism, public policy and culture to discuss the future of Urdu media and strengthen its role in India’s national discourse.
