Bazm-e-Sahafat: Bharat Express Urdu Conclave Begins At India International Centre

The third edition of Bharat Express Urdu’s national conclave, ‘Bazm-e-Sahafat’, began at the India International Centre (IIC) with a ceremonial lamp-lighting ceremony.

The conference, organised around the theme ‘Naye Bharat Ki Baat, Urdu Ke Saath’, brought together prominent personalities from politics, administration, education and journalism to discuss the evolving role of Urdu and Urdu journalism.

Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, former Delhi Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung, former Union Minister and BJP national spokesperson Syed Shahnawaz Hussain, and NCMEI Acting Chairman Professor (Dr) Shahid Akhtar jointly inaugurated the conclave by lighting the ceremonial lamp.

The ceremony set the stage for discussions on Urdu journalism’s history, present-day relevance and future in an evolving India.

Bharat Express Urdu Editor Dr Khalid Raza Khan welcomed the guests, scholars and journalists during the opening session. He highlighted Urdu’s historical legacy, its contribution to India’s Ganga-Jamuni cultural tradition and its continuing relevance within mainstream journalism in the digital era.

The conclave is being organised under the leadership of Upendrra Rai, CMD and Editor-in-Chief of Bharat Express News Network.

Addressing the inaugural session as chief speaker, CMD Upendrra Rai emphasised the importance of impartial and responsible journalism in a democratic society.

The day-long programme features discussions on subjects including ‘The Role of Urdu Journalism in Nation-Building’ and ‘Urdu in Political Dialogue’.

Members of Parliament, editors, academics and intellectuals from across the country are, however, participating in the sessions to discuss Urdu journalism’s contribution to India’s public discourse.
