Authorities in Mumbai have successfully arrested Sujeet Sushil Singh, a key suspect linked to the murder of former MLA & NCP leader Baba Siddique. The arrest, which took place during a coordinated operation with Punjab Police, marks a crucial step in unraveling the complex conspiracy surrounding Siddique’s assassination.
Taking to X, Gaurav Yadav, DGP Punjab police posted, “Sujeet was involved in the murder conspiracy and was informed about the plan to kill Baba Siddique three days in advance by Nitin Gautan Sapre-another accused. He also provided logistical assistance.”
Authorities transferred Sujeet Sushil Singh to the custody of Mumbai Police, who will investigate his involvement and gather additional evidence related to the case.
On Friday, authorities presented nine individuals arrested in the Baba Siddiqui murder case before a Mumbai court, which extended their police remand until 26 October. The nine accused, apprehended on different dates, appeared before Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate VR Patil at Esplanade Court after their police custody expired. The accused were:
During the court proceedings, police requested a three day extension of remand, but the court granted only a one-day extension, requiring the accused to return to court for further proceedings.
Earlier on 12 October, three shooters killed Baba Siddiqui, the NCP leader and former Maharashtra minister, near his son Zeeshan Siddique’s office in Nirmal Nagar, Mumbai.
The gang of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi has taken responsibility for the murder.
Investigators revealed that the shooters allegedly communicated with Anmol Bishnoi, the brother of Lawrence, via Snapchat prior to the murder, suggesting a calculated and premeditated attack.
Siddique was critically injured during the shooting and was rushed to Lilavati Hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
