In a message shared on Wednesday, PM Modi said Ayurveda offered more than a method of treating illness and connected it with a healthy and balanced way of life.
The Prime Minister urged citizens to deepen their connection with India’s Ayurvedic heritage. He further shared a Sanskrit Subhashitam describing Ayurveda as a science that addresses beneficial and harmful lifestyles, health, illness and the conditions required for a long and healthy life.

India is observing the 11th Ayurveda Day on September 23, 2026.
The Ministry of Ayush has selected ‘Ayurveda for a Healthier Tomorrow’ as this year’s theme, linking the country’s traditional knowledge with contemporary healthcare needs.
The main national programme is being held in Nagpur, Maharashtra, with Ayurveda institutions, practitioners and other stakeholders participating in celebrations across India and abroad.
The programme includes discussions and initiatives focused on evidence, research, innovation, integrated healthcare and community well-being.
The 2026 celebrations, however, feature the launch of the first report on the Ayush Services Sector, alongside safety dossiers for medicinal plants, treatment guidelines and other initiatives.
Scientific sessions will examine Ayurveda’s role in healthcare and its potential contribution to reducing the burden of non-communicable diseases.
The Government of India designated September 23 as Ayurveda Day every year through a 2025 notification, replacing the earlier practice of observing the occasion on Dhanteras, whose date varies annually.
The fixed date aims to provide greater consistency to national and international observances.
The 2026 campaign seeks to connect Ayurveda’s traditional knowledge with evidence-based research, innovation and contemporary healthcare requirements.
