Authorities On High Alert As Bihar Rivers Rise Amidst Monsoon Deluge

As incessant rainfall continued to lash Bihar for the past three days, authorities placed on high alert due to rising water levels in multiple rivers across the state.

Although the situation remains below the danger mark, concerns persist as key rivers swell.

The Kosi, Bagmati, Gandak, Budhi Gandak, Ganga, Son, and Punpun rivers have all seen increased water levels.

Notably, the Kosi Barrage discharged 1,96,405 cusecs of water on Sunday evening, highlighting the escalating flood threat.

In specific areas, the Ganga River at Digha Ghat, Patna, recorded a height of 45 meters, still below the danger mark of 50.45 meters, and at Gandhi Ghat, the level was 43 meters against a danger mark of 48.60 meters.

Meanwhile, the Son River in Koilwar reached 46.21 meters, with a danger mark set at 55.52 meters.

Despite the delayed onset of monsoon, Bihar has encountered 54.4 mm less rainfall than average, although some districts like Araria and Kishanganj have seen above-normal precipitation.

The Meteorological Department has issued heavy rain alerts for districts including West Champaran, East Champaran, Kishanganj, and others.

Authorities from the Water Resources and Disaster Management Departments are actively monitoring the situation.

Control rooms have been set up to oversee potential flooding, with preemptive measures in place to ensure public safety.

Authorities have assured proactive steps to mitigate risks associated with the rising water levels, aiming to safeguard communities from potential flood-related disasters.
