AU scientist created a water filter to prevent cancer and disability

Prayagraj

Center for Environmental Studies of Allahabad University (University) has  created a water filter that will prevent cancer and disability. Through this filter, harmful chemicals like arsenic and fluoride present in the water will be filtered and separated. This research has been patented for 20 years.

Dr. Suranjit Prasad, Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies Center, University of Allahabad along with  researchers have named the filtration unit designed by them to separate arsenic and fluoride from water as ‘Sorbi Pure AF’.Patent Office of the Government of India has  issued a patent certificate for this filtration unit.

He said that drinking water containing arsenic for a long time causes arsenicosis. This increases the risk of skin cancer. At the same time, teeth and bones become weak due to fluoride.

This may cause disability. Arsenic and fluoride are found in high amounts in water in Gujarat and West Bengal. This is the reason why people living in these areas have distorted teeth and more cases of disability are also found. The Associate Professor further said that  he took ten samples each of arsenic-rich water from Malda district of West Bengal and fluoride-rich water from Patna district of Gujarat.

The amount of arsenic and fluoridation in water samples taken from both the states was up to ten times more than the prescribed standard.
According to Dr. Prasad, the micro porous composite of methyl glycine and silica was prepared in the laboratory. Using this, arsenic and fluoride were separated from water. According to Dr. Prasad, this research was done under the grant received for a project from the Department of Science and Technology, New Delhi.
