Atishi Responds To Complaint Over Alleged MCC Violation, Slams Delhi Police And Election Commission

Delhi Chief Minister Atishi has responded to a complaint filed against her for allegedly using a government vehicle for political purposes, which she is accused of violating the model code of conduct (MCC) ahead of the upcoming elections.

Speaking to reporters after an FIR was lodged in connection with the alleged MCC violation, Atishi lashed out at the Delhi Police, questioning their impartiality. She also aimed at officials of the Election Commission (EC), expressing doubts about their ability to ensure a “free and fair election.”

“Atishi emphasized, “The entire country saw Parvesh Verma distributing ₹1100, later tweeting about holding a health camp and distributing spectacles. He also distributed bedsheets with his name on them. Yet, the Election Commission fails to see any violation of the MCC. The real question is—who is the police siding with? Is there pressure on EC officials? We hope the Election Commission’s promise of a free and fair election will be upheld.”

The complaint against Atishi, filed on January 8 at Govindpuri police station, accuses her of using a government car, specifically a Public Works Department vehicle (DL1LAL1469), for her election campaign activities. Following this, the returning officer for the Kalkaji constituency directed the Assistant Commissioner of Police to file an FIR.

Atishi, who is contesting the Delhi Assembly elections as the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate from Kalkaji, had planned to file her nomination papers on Monday. However, a delay in her roadshow caused her to miss the 3 PM deadline. She is now set to submit her nomination on Tuesday after visiting a Gurudwara and a temple.

Delhi will go to the polls on February 5, with the results to be declared on February 8. The last date for filing nominations is January 17, and the scrutiny process will take place the following day.

Atishi’s remarks come amid growing tensions over alleged violations of the MCC, as political parties gear up for the upcoming election battle.
