Delhi’s Water Minister, Atishi, expressed deep emotion on Sunday as she read out directives issued by detained Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. “Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has issued his first directive from ED custody, addressed to me, the Water Minister. This moved me to tears. How can someone, despite being under arrest, prioritize the welfare of Delhi’s people during such challenging times?” Atishi conveyed during a briefing.
“Arvind Kejriwal doesn’t perceive himself merely as the chief minister of Delhi; he regards the city’s two crore residents as his family. For nine years, he has managed Delhi with the care and responsibility of a family head,” she added.
Atishi’s statement coincides with a strong display of support from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for Kejriwal, who is India’s first sitting chief minister to be arrested. Kejriwal remains resolute, affirming his intention to govern the city from behind bars.

In his inaugural directive, Kejriwal instructed the deployment of additional water tankers to areas facing scarcity, fortifying the water supply in anticipation of the impending summer. Atishi also mentioned Kejriwal’s directive to liaise with Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena if necessary, expressing hope for cooperation.
Kejriwal’s arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday, March 21, in connection with the Delhi excise policy case marks a significant development. Presented before Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court, he was remanded to ED custody until March 28.
The ED has repeatedly implicated Kejriwal in its charge sheets, alleging his involvement in formulating an excise policy that purportedly favored certain individuals, who allegedly paid kickbacks to the AAP in return.
The unwavering dedication of Kejriwal and the AAP’s steadfast support in the face of adversity underscore the resilience and determination in Delhi’s political landscape.
