Atishi Criticizes BJP Over Delay In Mahila Samridhi Yojana Implementation

On Sunday, AAP MLA and former Delhi Chief Minister Atishi accused the BJP-led government in Delhi of failing to implement the Mahila Samridhi Yojana. She called the scheme an election gimmick built on ‘false promises’.

A day after the Cabinet approved the scheme, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta gave her approval on Saturday, prompting her remarks.

The initiative aims to provide Rs 2,500 per month to eligible women under the ‘Modi ki Guarantee’ banner.

Targeting women from economically weaker sections, the scheme will likely benefit 15-20 lakh women aged 18 to 60 from families earning up to Rs 3 lakh annually.

Applicants must be Delhi residents for at least five years and have bank accounts linked to Aadhaar.

The scheme is to use a multi-level verification system to prevent fraudulent claims, following the model of the Union government’s Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) programme.

Atishi alleged that despite the promised 8 March launch, the government had neither made payments nor started the registration process.

“Before the Delhi elections, PM Modi had promised the women of Delhi that on March 8, an amount of Rs 2,500 would be deposited in the accounts of all eligible women. He asked women to link their phone numbers to their bank accounts, assuring them they would receive a message confirming the deposit. But what happened on March 8? Neither Rs 2,500 was credited nor was a registration website launched,” Atishi told IANS.

The former Delhi CM further criticized the government for forming a committee instead of executing the scheme.

“The women of Delhi know that forming a committee is often a tactic to delay schemes indefinitely. The committee will sit for years, but the promised money will never reach the beneficiaries,” she asserted.

Atishi accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of betraying Delhi’s residents. She claimed the scheme was a ‘fraud’ and part of a pattern of unfulfilled election promises.

“It is now evident that PM Modi misled the women of Delhi. The promise has turned out to be a fraud. After today, the people of Delhi – and indeed the entire country – will not trust ‘Modi ki Guarantee’. People now know that he makes big promises before elections and backtracks afterwards,” she remarked.
