Assam CM Himanta Sarma Accuses Rahul Gandhi Of Using ‘Body Double’ In Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra

Himanta Biswa Sarma, Chief Minister of Assam, declared that he would shortly disclose the identity and address of the “body double” that Congressman Rahul Gandhi is believed to have used during the state’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra. At a press conference on Thursday, Sarma had brought up the accusation that the Congress MP had used a “body double” while on the Yatra. He cited a news article that said the person sitting and waving at people from the Yatra bus was “probably not Rahul Gandhi at all.”

Himanta: I will share all the details of body double of Rahul

“I don’t just say things. The duplicate’s name, and how it was done — I will share all details. Just wait for a few days,” the chief minister said on Saturday in Sonitpur district on the sidelines of a programme, when asked by reporters about the allegation against Gandhi.

“I will be in Dibrugarh tomorrow (Sunday), and the next day also I will be out of Guwahati. Once I am back in Guwahati, I will give the name and address of the duplicate,” he said.

Rahul Gandhi calls Himanta ‘most corrupt CM of India’

Rahul Gandhi recently claimed that Assam CM is the ‘most corrupt CM of India’ while he was on his Nyay Yatra. The procession passed from Assam on the 18th of January to the 25th of January, which is decided to travel from Maharashtra to Manipur.

The opposition party also accused the BJP-led government of denying or having issues with route approvals across the state. When Congress officials and workers pushed over police barricades put up to keep them from accessing Guwahati’s main city limits, the situation reached a breaking point.

FIR filed against Rahul

Gandhi and others were the subject of an FIR. Sarma later declared that they would be detained following the Lok Sabha elections because he did not want to “politicize” the matter before the elections. Sarma insisted that in order to beat him in the state, the Congress would want “all the Gandhis”—Rahul, Priyanka, and Sonia.

“Let them bring Priyanka Gandhi’s son also,” he said.

“They have already put up their hands (in surrender). They couldn’t do it through Rahul, so they will now get Priyanka and then Sonia,” Sarma said, referring to the Congress’ proposed programme in the state involving Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

On BJP and its allies’ Lok Sabha poll prospects in the state, the CM said, “We have 11-and-a-half assured seats. We are working on how to convert it into 12. We are not bothered about any Congress list (of candidates).” The state has fourteen seats in the Lok Sabha. Nine of those are presently controlled by the Congress, three by the BJP, one by the AIUDF, and one by an independent.
