Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has pledged that the culprits responsible for the recent triple murder in Golaghat district will be brought to justice. The tragic incident occurred when a man, entangled in family issues, killed his wife and her parents, later surrendering himself to the police.
CM Sarma visited the bereaved family to express condolences and assured them of a comprehensive investigation into the case. He asserted that the guilty parties would not be spared and that justice would be served.
During the visit, CM Sarma learned that Ankita, the victim’s sister, had written a letter detailing the harassment she faced from the accused husband and his family. However, the letter was not received, likely due to the lockdown in place at the time.
When asked if other family members of the husband were involved in the murders, CM Sarma stated that the police would conduct a thorough investigation, delving beyond the accused’s confession to uncover further details.
Taking to Twitter, CM Sarma reaffirmed the Assam government’s commitment to creating a crime-free society, vowing that no criminal would evade justice.
Meanwhile, Assam Director General of Police Gyanendra Pratap Singh assured that the investigation would be handled cautiously, ensuring a foolproof chargesheet against the perpetrator/s and abettors. The police would also examine any lapses in the handling of previous cases, including the validity of the marriage certificate submitted in previous investigations.
According to the police, the accused had a history of assaulting his wife and had been apprehended for it previously. Upon his release, he returned home and engaged in a heated argument before committing the heinous act. Following the crime, the accused surrendered himself to the Golaghat Police Station with his nine-month-old son.
The tragic incident has shaken the community, but the state authorities are determined to ensure that justice prevails for the victims and their grieving families. The investigation will be meticulous, leaving no stone unturned to hold the perpetrators accountable for their actions.
