On Saturday, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated projects worth Rs 34 crore in Sonitpur district, emphasizing the unprecedented progress in the northern part of the state. He highlighted the accelerated pace of development across Assam, stating that projects have consistently adhered to schedules over the last two to three years.
Addressing the inauguration ceremony of Tezpur Government Law College, Sarma announced the commencement of classes in the upcoming academic session. The government plans to establish nine more law colleges across the state. From just three government colleges a few years ago, the number has now risen to 16, with construction underway for an additional 20.

Sarma noted the establishment of six universities in the past five years, with eight more slated to be established soon. Mentioning the Kanaklata Baruah State University at Gohpur, he emphasized its focus on imparting education in new-age technologies. Additionally, plans for an industrial estate covering 350 bighas of land on the north bank were revealed.
At Tyagbir Hem Baruah College, Sarma highlighted abundant opportunities in Assam and the country, citing the state’s positive economic indicators. Encouraging innovative thinking, he urged students to pursue courses relevant to changing market dynamics. The Chief Minister laid the foundation stone for the New Tea Tribes and Adivasi Girls’ Hostel at the college.

Throughout the day, Sarma inaugurated various projects, including the Mukti Yodha Bhumidhar Bordoloi Suwarani Stadium, the 30-bedded Community Health Centre (Model Hospital) at Sootea, and the Chatia Natya Manch. The Chief Minister emphasized the state’s commitment to holistic development and progress.
