Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma praised the state’s progressive approach to employee welfare during a speech on Lok Kalyan Divas on Monday. Sarma emphasized that Assam’s government policies are among the most advanced and employee-friendly in the country, contributing to a stronger work culture within the state.
In his address, Sarma highlighted several initiatives designed to support government employees, including dedicated housing, solar panel installations, and comprehensive medical insurance schemes. “Assam boasts some of the most progressive policies for government servants,” Sarma stated. “Our efforts include providing solar panels to employees without requiring a salary mortgage and implementing a flexible medical reimbursement policy.”

The Chief Minister also contrasted Assam’s employee benefits with those of other states, noting that while he has recently visited several states, none have matched Assam’s employee-centric policies. He specifically pointed out that Assam government employees receive a 50 percent Dearness Allowance (DA), significantly higher than the 14 percent DA provided in West Bengal.
“Despite West Bengal’s advanced status, their employees receive considerably less DA than ours. This disparity is verifiable through public sources,” Sarma remarked.
Sarma underscored the state government’s commitment to treating employees as a family and called on them to focus on public service. “The future of Assam lies in the hands of our government employees. I urge them to work not just for their own benefit but for the betterment of the people,” he concluded.
