Asian Games 2026: PM Modi Hails India’s Mixed 4x400m Relay Team After Silver Medal

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday congratulated India’s mixed 4x400m relay team after the quartet won silver at the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya.

The Prime Minister’s Office shared PM Modi’s post, in which he called the performance ‘exceptional’ and congratulated Manu TS, Poovamma MR, Vishal TK and Vithya Ramraj. He further praised their ‘speed, coordination and determination’ and described the race as a proud moment for Indian athletics.

PM Modi wished the athletes greater success in the future.

The Indian quartet clocked 3:14.46 in the final at Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium to finish second. Bahrain won gold in a Games-record 3:12.87, while Vietnam took bronze in 3:14.54. Japan finished fourth in 3:15.52.

India held off Vietnam by 0.08 seconds to secure the silver.

The result extended India’s medal-winning run in the mixed 4x400m relay at the Asian Games.

India won gold at Jakarta 2018 and silver at Hangzhou 2023, making the Nagoya result the country’s third consecutive medal in the event.

Vishal Thennarasu won mixed 4x400m relay gold and men’s 4x400m relay silver at the 2025 Asian Athletics Championships, while Vithya Ramraj has represented India at Paris 2024 and won mixed 4x400m relay silver at the 2022 Asian Games.
