Asian Games 2026: PM Modi Hails India’s First Skeet Mixed Team Medal, Congratulates Badminton Team

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday congratulated the Indian men’s badminton team and skeet mixed team athletes Anantjeet Singh Naruka and Parinaaz Dhaliwal for their bronze-medal performances at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games in Japan.

The Prime Minister’s Office posted PM Modi’s message on X, noting that the skeet pair had secured India’s first-ever Asian Games medal in the mixed team event.

“Congratulations to Parinaaz Dhaliwal and Anantjeet Singh Naruka on winning the Bronze Medal in the Skeet Mixed Team event at the Asian Games. Their achievement marks India’s first-ever medal in this event at the Asian Games. Best wishes to both of them! May this success inspire many more milestones in the times to come,” the PMO posted.

Naruka and Dhaliwal scored 44 hits from 48 shots in the final to claim third place.

South Korea recorded the same score but took silver after the tie-break favoured its higher qualifying score, while China won gold with 45 hits.

The Indian pair struck all eight targets in their last series, bringing their total to 44 and sealing the historic bronze.

PM Modi also praised the men’s badminton team for its bronze-medal finish, recognising the players’ commitment and performance across the tournament.

The PMO wished the squad further success in its upcoming competitions.

India earned the bronze after China, the defending champions, beat the team 3-1 in the semi-final.

Lakshya Sen lost the opening singles match to Shi Yuqi, but Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty levelled the tie by overcoming Liang Weikeng and Wang Chang.

The result gave India its second badminton medal at the Asian Games, following Satwik and Chirag’s men’s doubles gold at Hangzhou in 2023.
