Asian Games 2026: PM Modi Celebrates Historic Gold Medals By Pranavi, Kumkum

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday congratulated Pranavi Sharath Urs and Kumkum Anil Mohod after the two Indian athletes created history by winning gold medals in women’s individual golf and recurve archery at the 2026 Asian Games.

In a post on X, PM Modi described Pranavi’s victory as ‘one for the history books’ and congratulated her for securing India’s first-ever gold in women’s individual golf at the Asian Games. He praised her superb finish, saying the achievement could inspire more young Indians to take up the sport and aim for the highest level.

Pranavi won the title with a 15-under 265 aggregate at Kasugai Country Club East Course. She entered the final round with a three-stroke lead and recovered from a triple bogey on the third hole with birdies on the sixth, 10th and 13th to finish with an even-par 70.

PM Modi, in another post, congratulated Kumkum Anil Mohod for becoming the first Indian woman to win individual recurve gold at the Asian Games. He further highlighted her composure in the decisive shoot-off and wished her continued success.

Kumkum defeated South Korea’s Yejin Oh in a tense final to claim the title. Her victory secured an individual quota place for India at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

The landmark victories by Pranavi and Kumkum added two historic gold medals to India’s Asian Games campaign, further highlighting the country’s growing strength in women’s sport.
