Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal found himself in a bit of a tight spot today when questioned about consulting with AAP’s allies before making grand promises, dubbed “guarantees,” ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. He offered apologies for the oversight, citing time constraints but expressed confidence that his allies would not object to his pledges of improving education and healthcare facilities.
Kejriwal swiftly dismissed any notions of vying for the Prime Minister’s position, instead emphasizing his commitment to ensuring the fulfillment of AAP’s guarantees should the opposition coalition come to power.
In a press briefing following a meeting with AAP MLAs, Kejriwal rolled out his ambitious agenda encapsulated in 10 “Kejriwal’s guarantees.” Although these assurances weren’t discussed with AAP’s allies, Kejriwal asserted his belief that they wouldn’t pose any objections. He reiterated his determination to see these promises through, flanked by senior AAP leaders.
“These 10 guarantees outline a vision for a New India. Some of these tasks should have been accomplished in the past 75 years but remain unfulfilled. Among them are essential endeavors crucial for national strength, to be tackled with utmost urgency,” Kejriwal asserted.
Drawing a dichotomy between Modi’s and his own assurances, Kejriwal reminded the public of AAP’s track record in fulfilling electoral promises and hinted at uncertainties regarding the fulfillment of Modi’s guarantees post-retirement.
The guarantees encompassed commitments such as round-the-clock power supply, quality education and healthcare facilities, and the creation of two crore jobs annually for the youth. Kejriwal pointed to successes in areas like power supply and education in Delhi and Punjab, confident of replicating these achievements nationwide.
Kejriwal also pledged to discontinue the Agniveer scheme for military recruitment, advocate for farmers to receive Minimum Support Price for their produce per the Swaminathan Commission’s recommendations, and reclaim territory occupied by China. Additionally, he reiterated the demand for full statehood for Delhi.
Despite being out on interim bail for campaigning, Kejriwal’s focus remains squarely on AAP’s electoral promises and the vision they represent for the future of India.
