Arvind Kejriwal Criticizes BJP Over Farmers’ Protest & Unfulfilled Promises

On Thursday, AAP National Convenor and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal slammed the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre. He accused them of going back on promises made to farmers three years ago during the ongoing farmers’ protests.

In a post on social media, the AAP National Convenor called the BJP ‘arrogant’ and stated that the ruling party at the centre would be accountable if anything happens to the farmers in Punjab on indefinite hunger strikes.

Taking to X, Kejriwal posted, “Farmers in Punjab have been staging sit-ins and indefinite hunger strikes for several days. Their demands are the same ones that the central government agreed to three years ago but has yet to implement. The BJP government has now reneged on its promises. The BJP isn’t even talking to the farmers. Engage with them – they are our country’s farmers. Why is the BJP so arrogant that it refuses to have a conversation?”

The post further added, “The farmers in Punjab who are on indefinite hunger strikes–may God keep them safe. But if anything happens to them, the BJP will be held responsible.”

Kejriwal also alleged that the Centre is planning to re-implement the three farm laws that were repealed three years ago due to farmers’ protests, under the guise of a ‘policy’.

“For the information of farmers across the country, let me clarify that the three black laws that the Centre repealed three years ago due to the farmers’ agitation are being prepared for re-implementation through the back door, under the guise of a ‘policy’. A copy of this policy has been sent to all states for their feedback,” said the National Convenor.

SC Grants Punjab More Time To Comply With Order For Dallewal’s Medical Aid

In related news, the Supreme Court granted the Punjab government more time to comply with its 20 December order. The order required the government to provide medical aid and hospitalize farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal. Dallewal has been on a fast-unto-death since 26 November.

The matter will be heard again on 2 January after the Punjab government sought additional time to fulfill the court’s order.

Advocate General Gurminder Singh stated, “An application has been moved seeking three more days for compliance with the court’s December 20 order for providing medical aid and shifting Dallewal to the hospital.”
