App-Based E-Rickshaw & E-Auto Service To Improve Transport For Maha Kumbh 2025

In preparation for the upcoming Maha Kumbh 2025 in Prayagraj, a significant upgrade to local transport has been announced.

Starting 15 December, an app-based booking service for e-rickshaws and e-autos will be available on popular platforms like Ola and Uber, providing a convenient and eco-friendly transportation option for devotees.

This initiative aims to tackle the issue of arbitrary fare charges and offer a reliable, affordable, and sustainable travel solution for the millions of visitors expected at the event.

Convenience & Safety For Devotees

To ensure quality service, all e-vehicle drivers will undergo rigorous training, focusing on courteous behaviour and language assistance through Google Voice.

Additionally, a dedicated fleet of pink taxis, driven by women, will provide enhanced safety and convenience for female devotees.

Initially, 30-40 pink taxis will be operational, offering pre-determined fares on a per-km basis, ensuring transparency.

Eco-Friendly Transport Initiative

Comfy E Mobility, a UP-based startup recognized by Startup India, is leading the e-rickshaw initiative.

Founder Manu Gupta highlighted the company’s goal to provide safe, environment-friendly transport.

The app-based service will launch with 300 e-rickshaws, all equipped with GPRS tracking and covered seating for passenger comfort.

Notably, the service will not charge any commission to drivers, making rides more affordable.

E-vehicles will be available at key locations such as railway stations, bus stands, airports, and hotels.

Additionally, a Call Centre will handle any complaints or issues that arise.

The service aligns with the Yogi government’s vision of an environmentally friendly Maha Kumbh by promoting electric vehicles.

A Pilot For Sustainable Urban Transport

This e-rickshaw initiative will serve as a pilot for eco-friendly urban transport in Uttar Pradesh, with plans to expand to other cities post-Maha Kumbh. Comfy E Mobility aims to reduce air pollution while creating employment opportunities for local communities.

Enhanced Transport Infrastructure For Kumbh Mela 2025

With an estimated 45 crore devotees expected to arrive for Kumbh Mela 2025, the government is ramping up its transport infrastructure.

Additionally, over 7,000 roadways buses, 550 shuttle buses, and 3,000 trains (including 1,000 additional trains) will be available to facilitate intercity travel.

New Maha Kumbh Mela District

In another significant move, the Uttar Pradesh government has declared the Maha Kumbh area in Prayagraj a new district, the Maha Kumbh Mela district. This new administrative district is likely to improve the management and smooth execution of the event.

Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to visit Uttar Pradesh on 13 December to review preparations for the event and inaugurate key development works.
