Anti-BJP Posters Surface In Singur Before PM Modi’s Public Meeting

Political temperatures have risen in Singur, West Bengal, ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled public meeting on Sunday, nearly 17 years after Tata Motors withdrew its Nano car project from the area and relocated it to Gujarat.

Controversy erupted after anti-BJP posters appeared overnight in the Ratanpur area of Singur and along key road stretches.

The posters, put up by unidentified individuals, carried sharp slogans targeting the Prime Minister, including ‘Nagorikotto haran sabha’ (a rally to snatch citizenship) and ‘Bangalider keno dhoka dile’ (Why did you deceive the Bengalis?).

Following the discovery of the posters, a political blame game ensued between the Bharatiya Janata Party and the ruling Trinamool Congress.

The BJP alleged that the posters were part of a deliberate attempt by the TMC to create tension ahead of PM Modi’s rally.

BJP leader Swapan Pal claimed the incident reflected the ruling party’s fear. He said the Prime Minister’s visit would mark a turning point for Singur and Bengal’s industrial future, adding that the BJP would emerge stronger in the state.

The Trinamool Congress rejected the allegations, with local leader Amiya Dhara denying party involvement and calling the posters an expression of public anger against the BJP-led Centre. He also questioned the BJP’s claims on industrial development.

Despite the controversy, PM Modi’s programme will proceed as scheduled. He will inaugurate and lay foundation stones for projects worth ₹830 crore before addressing a public meeting at the abandoned Tata Nano plant site in Singur.

With industry and development expected to feature prominently in his address, all eyes remain on the Prime Minister’s message to Bengal and the political signal it may send ahead of the upcoming elections.
