Authorities in Gujarat’s Surat district reported another attempted train derailment on Saturday, raising alarm over potential sabotage by anti-national elements. During an early morning inspection around 5 A.M. near the Kim Junction railway station, a trackman discovered that the fishplates and keys of the railway tracks had been removed.
The Station Master and Railway Protection Force (RPF) were promptly notified, and repairs were executed swiftly to ensure train services remained uninterrupted, according to officials.
This incident is part of a troubling trend of attempted sabotage on railway operations. Just recently, on September 10, miscreants in Rajasthan attempted to derail a train by placing two 100 kg cement blocks on tracks between Saradhana and Bangadh. One block was struck by a goods train, but fortunately, no significant damage resulted.

The day prior, on September 9, a similar attempt was made near Kanpur, where an LPG cylinder, a petrol bottle, and matchboxes were found on the tracks, targeting the Bhiwani-Prayagraj Kalindi Express. The quick actions of the loco pilot, who engaged the emergency brakes, averted what could have been a disastrous incident. Investigators later discovered additional incriminating evidence, including matchsticks and a bag of gunpowder, suggesting a premeditated conspiracy.
The Indian Railways has faced multiple derailment attempts in recent months, raising serious concerns about safety. On August 27, heavy rains caused four coaches to derail in the Udhna Railway Yard near Surat. Earlier, on August 17, at least 20 coaches of the Sabarmati Express derailed near Kanpur after hitting a boulder, resulting in considerable damage.
These incidents underscore the urgent need for enhanced safety measures and vigilance as authorities work to investigate and thwart further sabotage attempts against the railway system.
