Amritpal Singh Case Takes New Turn, The Radical Leader Put On Surveillance In NEPAL

The search for Pro-Khalistan Leader, Amritpal Singh has taken a new turn. It has landed in the neighbouring country of Nepal. According to the Nepalese local media, he is hiding in Nepal. Earlier, it was said that he is hiding in Uttar Pradesh.

He has been put on the surveillance list of Nepal. As India has made a request to not allow him to flee to the third country. The neighbouring country is also allowed to arrest the leader in case he tries to escape using an Indian of a fake passport.

The Department of Immigration has put Singh on its surveillance list following a request from the Indian Embassy in Nepal. Kamal Prasad Pandey, the Information Officer at the Department said, “We have received a written note along with a copy of his passport from the (Indian) embassy suspecting that Amritpal Singh might have entered Nepal.”

“The Indian Embassy has sent the note asking the Department to put Singh, a member of a separatist group, on the surveillance list,” Pandey added.

“Amritpal Singh is currently hiding in Nepal”, Nepal media states

It is assumed that Amritpal is hiding in Nepal and the Indian government has sent a letter to the country regarding the leader. But there is no confirmation about the letter from the Indian government’s side.

Earlier, the Kathmandu Post daily stated that the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu had asked the government agencies to detain Singh if he attempted to exit Nepal, in a letter addressed to the Department of Consular Services on Saturday.

“Singh is currently hiding in Nepal,” the paper said, referencing a copy of the letter received by the nation.

“The esteemed ministry is requested to inform the Department of Immigration not to permit Amritpal Singh to travel through Nepal for any third country and arrest him if he attempts to escape from Nepal using Indian Passport or any other fake passport under intimation to this mission,” the letter said.

The letter and Amritpal’s personal information have been distributed to all relevant organizations, including hotels and flights.

The police initiated a crackdown on Singh on March 18, and since then, he has been on the run. Singh is alleged to have many passports with different names.

The Home Ministry of India has also asked all the security agencies to be on high alert on the Nepal-India borders. In addition to this, police officers in civilian clothes are posted in the border area as Singh could enter the country from Kapilvastu in Western Nepal.

According to My Republica daily, which cited ministry sources, the command was sent at the request of Indian security personnel. According to the command the Nepal-India border region has been on “high alert” for the past two days.
