Amit Shah’s Chennai Visit: Security Tightened At Airport, East Coast Road

Security has been intensified at Chennai airport and along East Coast Road ahead of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s two-day visit.

Shah will arrive in Chennai on Wednesday evening.

On Thursday, the Minister will chair a conference of Chief Ministers from southern states and Puducherry at Kovalam in Chengalpattu district.

The meeting will take place at a private luxury hotel on East Coast Road.

Chief Ministers of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, along with the Puducherry Chief Minister, are expected to attend.

Shah will lead the discussions and address the gathering.

According to his official itinerary, Shah will leave New Delhi on a special aircraft and reach Chennai’s old airport at 07:40 PM on Wednesday.

Officials and security personnel will receive him before he travels by road to Kovalam.

Authorities have strengthened security along the convoy route, particularly on East Coast Road. Surveillance and vehicle checks will increase between the airport and Kovalam.

Senior officials from participating states and the Union Territory will join the conference.

Discussions are expected to cover southern regional issues and Centre-State coordination.

Shah will leave Kovalam by road at around 02:30 PM on Thursday. He is expected to reach the old airport by 03:30 PM and depart for New Delhi at 03:45 PM.

Chennai Airport received formal communication from New Delhi on Tuesday morning. Officials subsequently held a security review meeting.

Airport authorities, city police, security agencies, VIP protection units and the Intelligence Bureau reviewed arrival, departure, convoy movement and access control arrangements.

Additional personnel will guard the old airport on Wednesday and Thursday.

The complex will remain under enhanced security, with sensitive areas closely regulated.
