Amit Shah Visits Scene Of Pahalgam Attack; Vows Justice For Victims

As the country grapples with the aftermath of the tragic terror attack in Pahalgam, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday reached Baisaran meadow – the site of the deadly incident that claimed the lives of innocent tourists and sent shockwaves across the nation.

Shah arrived by helicopter at the now-quiet meadow, which still bears the chilling signs of Tuesday’s violence.

The area has placed under tight security, with army personnel deployed to secure the surroundings.

Earlier in the day, Shah paid tribute to the victims at a solemn wreath-laying ceremony held outside the Police Control Room in Srinagar.

Taking to X, Shah posted, “With a heavy heart, paid last respects to the deceased of the Pahalgam terror attack. Bharat will not bend to terror. The culprits of this dastardly terror attack will not be spared.”

The Union Home Minister also met the grieving families, who, overcome with emotion, expressed their anguish and deep sorrow at the loss of their loved ones.

Congress MP KC Venugopal and Jammu and Kashmir Congress President Tariq Hameed Karra also joined in paying their respects during the ceremony.

Tuesday’s attack, which struck the peaceful and picturesque Pahalgam area in Anantnag district, is one of the most severe attacks since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019.

The incident has turned a place once known for its serenity into one of mourning.

In response, political parties and traders’ unions across the Kashmir Valley have announced a complete shutdown on Wednesday.

The move is to express solidarity with the victims’ families and to strongly condemn the act of terror.

Shah Chairs Security Review In Srinagar

On Tuesday evening, shortly after arriving in Srinagar, the Home Minister had chaired a high-level security meeting with all relevant agencies.

He vowed that those responsible for the attack would face strict punishment and reiterated that such ‘dastardly acts’ would not go unpunished.

“Anguished by the terror attack on tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. My thoughts are with the family members of the deceased. Those involved in this dastardly act of terror will not be spared, and we will come down heavily on the perpetrators with the harshest consequences,” Shah posted on X.

The post further added, “Briefed PM Shri @narendramodi Ji about the incident and held a meeting with the concerned officials via video conferencing. Will shortly leave for Srinagar to hold an urgent security review meeting with all the agencies.”
