Union Home Minister Amit Shah will visit the Border Security Force’s (BSF) 18th Battalion Border Outpost (BOP) at Jumagach near the India-Bangladesh border in Siliguri on Saturday as part of his three-day visit to West Bengal.
The visit will focus on strengthening border security, reviewing governance initiatives and assessing the implementation of key administrative measures across the state.
During his visit to the border outpost, scheduled to begin at 11 AM, Shah will interact with BSF personnel, address a Prahari Sammelan, participate in a plantation drive and inaugurate as well as lay the foundation stone for several BSF infrastructure and development projects aimed at enhancing operational capabilities.
Later in the day, the Home Minister will chair a high-level meeting at the Uttarkanya Auditorium in Siliguri to review border management and security arrangements in West Bengal.
The meeting will focus on strengthening security across North Bengal, particularly in the strategically important Siliguri Corridor, known as the ‘Chicken’s Neck’, which links India’s northeastern states with the rest of the country.
Shah will also review the implementation of the three new criminal laws and the state’s birth and death registration system before travelling to Kolkata.
On Sunday, the Minister will chair a meeting on West Bengal’s law-and-order situation and review security preparedness with SPs and DMs from South Bengal’s border districts.
During his Kolkata visit, Shah will inaugurate the World Museum at the National Library and lay the foundation stone for Amul Bengal Dairy’s new curd manufacturing plant.
Shah arrived in Siliguri on Friday evening and was received by Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari at Bagdogra Airport. His three-day visit focuses on border security, law and order, governance reforms and infrastructure development in West Bengal.
