Amit Shah To Review India-Bangladesh Border Security During Tripura Visit

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will visit Tripura to review security arrangements along the India-Bangladesh border and assess the preparedness of the Border Security Force (BSF) and other agencies in tackling cross-border challenges.

Shah will arrive in Agartala after chairing the 73rd Plenary Session of the North Eastern Council (NEC) in Shillong.

During his visit, Shah will hold a series of meetings and inspections aimed at strengthening border security and enhancing coordination among security agencies.

Officials said the Home Minister will review measures to curb infiltration, illegal migration, smuggling and other trans-border crimes. He will also assess the operational readiness of the BSF, state police and other security forces responsible for safeguarding the international frontier.

Before chairing a high-level review meeting at the BSF frontier headquarters in Agartala, Shah will visit key locations along the border in the West Tripura district to assess the ground situation and inspect existing security infrastructure.

Officials expect the visit to further strengthen surveillance and vigilance along the border and in nearby settlements.

Apart from security-related engagements, Shah will lay foundation stones for several infrastructure projects, participate in a tree plantation drive and attend a Sainik Sammelan during his visit.

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha said the state will benefit from the Centre’s smart fencing initiative, which aims to strengthen surveillance and monitoring along the India-Bangladesh border. He noted that the state government had earlier requested the Home Minister to visit the frontier and review the prevailing security situation.

Tripura shares an 856-km border with Bangladesh, making it vulnerable to illegal migration, smuggling and other cross-border activities.

Security agencies have intensified vigilance since the 2024 unrest in Bangladesh, and officials expect Shah’s visit to further strengthen border management and security.
