Union Home Minister Amit Shah has asked Madhya Pradesh to raise milk production to 50 crore litres in three years, while calling for scientific breed improvement.
Addressing a Gopalak Sammelan at BHEL Dussehra Ground, Shah linked dairy expansion with rural incomes and efforts to tackle malnutrition.
“This conference of cattle rearers is an auspicious sign of a White Revolution in Madhya Pradesh. We aim to achieve a milk production level of 50 crore litres in Madhya Pradesh over the next three years,” the Home Minister said.
Around 35,000 cattle rearers and dairy cooperative members attended the gathering.
Shah called for investment to meet the target and proposed developing 50 acres of land for breed improvement and livestock facilities.
He said dairy farming could create an additional income source for families. He also announced plans for a scheme that would enable farmers to earn from cow dung.
Shah underlined the role of dairy cooperatives in expanding organised milk production and increasing the economic participation of livestock rearers, especially women.
“Milk production will also play a significant role in the fight against malnutrition. In the near future, a scheme will be introduced in Madhya Pradesh through which farmers can earn income from cow dung, benefiting rural communities,” he said.
The programme featured several projects. Shah laid the foundation stone for a Rs 255-crore milk processing plant in Ujjain, with a capacity of three lakh litres daily.
Bhopal received a 40,000-litre-per-day Product Dairy Plant costing Rs 16.5 crore and a central dairy laboratory worth Rs 12.42 crore. The programme launched Rs 6.5 crore strengthening work for a mini dairy plant in Shivpuri.
Shah said the Centre was advancing White Revolution 2.0 through dairy cooperatives to increase milk procurement and strengthen rural incomes.
The programme also provided Rs 101 crore to gaushalas and distributed Rs 15.10 crore in dividends among dairy cooperative members.
