Amit Shah Says ISI-Backed Shahzad Bhatti Network Dismantled, Over 200 Arrested

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday said Indian security forces dismantled the ISI-backed Shahzad Bhatti Network (SBN) ahead of Independence Day, thwarting plans for subversive attacks.

The Home Minister said more than 200 operatives linked to the network were arrested during coordinated operations across 14 states.

Taking to X, Shah posted, “Modi govt destroyed the ISI-backed terror group Shahzad Bhatti Network ahead of Independence Day and thwarted its plans for subversive attacks by arresting more than 200 operatives.”

“Indian security forces ripped apart the network by launching coordinated operations across different locations in 14 states upholding a brilliant example of India’s zero-tolerance towards terrorism,” the post further read.

Shah said investigators recovered several items from the ISI-funded group. These included IEDs, grenades bearing Pakistan Ordnance Factory markings, pistols and live cartridges. They recovered CCTV cameras allegedly used for espionag

“The network was involved in several terrorist activities,” the Minister added.

The development comes against the backdrop of recent arrests in the Shahzad Bhatti case.

In late July, the West Bengal STF arrested two primary suspects in the Pakistan-linked terror and espionage module. They were suspected Jaish-e-Mohammed operative Mohammad Hamim Mondal and his associate, Arpita Sarkar.

According to officials, the SBN targeted family members of at least six current West Bengal Cabinet members through Sarkar. SBN handlers allegedly maintained regular contact with her through encrypted messages on different social media platforms.

The STF has continued expanding its investigation into connected surveillance and espionage networks across the region.

Investigators are examining seized digital devices and international communication links.
