Amit Shah Says Centre Committed To Identifying And Expelling Illegal Infiltrators

HM Amit Shah on Thursday asserted that the Narendra Modi-led government remained firmly committed to identifying and expelling every illegal infiltrator residing in the country. He claimed infiltration along the Bangladesh border had already started declining in West Bengal following the political transition in the state.

Shah addressed a public programme in Sonipur village of Gujarat’s Gandhinagar district. He said the BJP government in Bengal swiftly established detention centres and transferred land for border fencing projects.

The Union Home Minister alleged that infiltration occurred frequently during the tenure of the previous administration led by Mamata Banerjee. He claimed the situation had changed significantly after the BJP assumed power in Bengal.

Shah further remarked that authorities preferred illegal entrants to leave voluntarily rather than face legal proceedings. He stated that Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari and the Bengal government had already created detention facilities for illegal infiltrators.

According to Shah, individuals who voluntarily returned to their places of origin would not face legal action from the Bengal administration. He also expressed confidence that several infiltrators would leave before the launch of a formal identification campaign.

The Home Minister delivered the remarks during an event marking the inauguration and foundation stone laying ceremony for development projects worth Rs 340 crore in Gandhinagar district.

Shah also highlighted the BJP’s governance footprint nationwide and stated that the party currently governed nearly 80 per cent of India’s geographical territory. He described the recent political developments in Bengal as a significant achievement for the BJP.

Despite the political references, Shah maintained that the Centre’s actions primarily focused on national security and efficient border management. He reiterated that strengthening border fencing infrastructure and identifying illegal infiltrators remained major priorities for the Union government.
