Amit Shah Reviews Sir Creek Security Projects, Says 70% Work Completed

Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited Border Outpost G7 in Bhuj on Friday to inspect the ongoing infrastructure development work in Gujarat’s Sir Creek and Harami Nala regions.

While addressing Border Security Force (BSF) personnel, Shah stated that around 70 per cent of the planned security enhancement projects had already been completed. He expressed confidence that the authorities would complete the remaining work within the next two years, permanently securing the region against external threats.

Shah recalled that concerns regarding vulnerabilities in the Sir Creek and Harami Nala sectors were first identified during an early security review conducted after he took charge as Union Home Minister.

Following the review, the Centre initiated a detailed security upgrade programme aimed at creating a robust and ‘leak-proof’ border protection system.

The plan covers the development of surveillance towers, roads, accommodation units, drinking water facilities, medical infrastructure and modern fencing systems across the sensitive border region.

The Home Minister said the government had consistently worked towards reducing the hardships faced by BSF personnel deployed in the challenging terrain. He noted that authorities had prioritised the use of modern technology and ensured that financial limitations did not obstruct the implementation of critical security measures.

Overcoming Challenges in the Rann of Kutch

Shah spoke about the technical and geographical obstacles encountered during infrastructure development in the marshlands of the Rann of Kutch.

The authorities elevated the border outpost area by approximately 3.75 metres to improve flood protection, while they also built stone reinforcement walls alongside roads to minimise damage caused by heavy water flow.

According to Shah, the entire Rann region remained submerged under nearly 1.5 metres of water during the survey process. He added that he personally supervised the progress for close to three months to ensure the project continued despite adverse conditions.

Appreciating the efforts of BSF personnel, Shah said the jawans stationed in the region played a crucial role in safeguarding Bhuj and nearby areas from security threats.

During the visit, the Home Minister also inaugurated infrastructure facilities at border posts G7 and G13 and reviewed surveillance systems deployed along the India-Pakistan border.
