Amit Shah Reviews Security Preparedness For Amarnath Yatra 2026

Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a high-level review meeting to assess security arrangements and operational preparedness for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra, one of India’s most significant annual pilgrimages.

The meeting was attended by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, NSA Ajit Doval, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, CRPF Director General GP Singh and other senior officials.

The Amarnath Yatra will run from July 3 to August 28, with authorities strengthening security and logistical arrangements for the annual pilgrimage.

Located at 3,880 metres in the Himalayas, the Amarnath cave shrine attracts thousands of devotees each year.

Devotees can reach the shrine through the traditional 48-km Pahalgam route in Anantnag district or the shorter 14-km Baltal route in Ganderbal district.

Security agencies are relying on advanced surveillance systems, intelligence-based monitoring and close coordination among multiple agencies to create a secure environment.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police have deployed sophisticated screening and anti-sabotage equipment, including explosive detectors, metal detectors, CCTV systems, vehicle scanners and other specialised security tools.

Authorities have also introduced the QR-based ‘Pahchan App’ to digitally verify workers and vendors operating along the pilgrimage route.

The initiative aims to prevent unauthorised access while improving accountability, crowd management and overall security.

Tenant verification drives, accommodation inspections and intelligence-gathering operations have been intensified.

The CRPF has also reviewed security preparedness, while authorities continue to strengthen healthcare, sanitation, connectivity and pilgrim services for a smooth Yatra.

Local Muslim communities continue to play a vital role by assisting devotees as guides, porters, pony operators and shopkeepers, reflecting the spirit of communal harmony associated with the annual Yatra.
