Amit Shah Promises Free Transport For Women If BJP Wins West Bengal

On Tuesday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced that women in West Bengal would be allowed to travel free of cost on state-run transport services from 1 June if the Bharatiya Janata Party comes to power after the Assembly elections.

Addressing a rally in Kulti in West Burdwan, Shah said women’s safety and empowerment would be central to the party’s governance agenda. He asserted that stricter law and order measures would be introduced to ensure greater security in public spaces.

The Home Minister also criticised the ruling All India Trinamool Congress. He alleged that incidents of violence and harassment took place under its administration.

Shah said such situations will not recur if his party assumes office.

West Bengal is set to vote in two phases on 23 and 29 April, with counting scheduled for 4 May.

Shah said robust security arrangements would be put in place during polling to prevent any disruption.

In addition to the transport proposal, he outlined plans to act against illegal immigration. He said authorities will identify and deport those residing unlawfully in the state.

The rally in Kulti was part of Shah’s campaign tour, which also included earlier engagements in the Darjeeling region.
