Amit Shah Praises Basoya’s Extradition, Says Drug Fugitives Cannot Escape Indian Law

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday highlighted the return of alleged drug trafficker Virender Singh Basoya from the UAE, calling it a significant development in India’s fight against narcotics.

In a post on X, Shah said the Modi government was relentlessly tracking drug traffickers hiding abroad and working to dismantle their networks.

The Minister said the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) had secured Basoya’s return from the UAE as part of the government’s zero-tolerance policy towards narcotics.

Shah said agencies traced the alleged fugitive through a top-to-bottom and bottom-to-top approach. He added that the operation showed drug traffickers could not escape Indian law by operating from foreign locations.

The NCB had issued a Red Corner Notice against Basoya, following which authorities in Dubai arrested him. The UAE later deported him to India.

Basoya faces allegations in the Pune drug case involving narcotics reportedly valued at around Rs 6,000 crore.

Authorities have also reportedly linked him to Sandeep Dhunia, whom Delhi Police identified as the main accused in a separate case involving alleged narcotics worth nearly Rs 13,000 crore.

According to the information available, Dhunia travelled from Dubai to Pakistan after allegedly evading Indian authorities.

Investigators examined the alleged criminal network from multiple levels to trace Basoya. His return marks a significant development for the NCB and other agencies investigating alleged international narcotics operations.

The deportation of Virender Singh Basoya to India is expected to assist the investigation into the alleged drug network and its wider connections.
